Advocates urge federal online protections for children

Child safety advocates are calling on the federal government to finally enact strong online protections for children and youth, urging Parliament to pass comprehensive online safety legislation to address harms such as cyberbullying, online exploitation and algorithm-driven risks. Witnesses including advocates from Children First Canada and anti-harms campaigners appeared before a Parliamentary committee studying the impacts of social media and influencer content on young users. They warn Canada is lagging behind other countries moving ahead with age-based social media rules and tougher tech oversight.
