Rihanna Spotted Heading to César Restaurant in Paris After Céline Dion Concert
By Rodrigo Santos Andrade
With China recently expanding visa-free access for travelers from dozens of countries, more foreign visitors are seeing the country not through headlines, but through daily life. Before coming to China, many visitors arrive with firm impressions already formed by news coverage, social media and political narratives. But what happens when those expectations meet reality? What surprises them most once they’re here? And when they eventually return home, what do they miss and what feels different?
On this episode of Dialogue, we explore how firsthand experience reshapes perceptions of China, and how those personal encounters sometimes clash sharply with media portrayals. This episode’s guests are Rebekka Mikkola, social media influencer and cross-cultural communicator; Simon Phillips, British businessman and travel vlogger; and Rick Dunham, visiting scholar at Tsinghua University.
