NJ leaders slam ‘unacceptable’ noncitizen voter registration; ‘zero credibility’ in Trump claims

As many as 6,600 non-U.S. citizens registered to vote in New Jersey in 2023 and 2024 because of a software flaw, Gov. Mikie Sherrill said Tuesday, July 21. Fewer than 400 of them cast ballots, she said.
The announcement comes days after President Donald Trump asserted that elections in the United States have numerous weaknesses. Sherrill said the find shouldn’t lend credence to Trump’s allegations of widespread cases of noncitizens being registered to vote.
“As the Trump Administration tries to weaponize elections for political gain, I am ensuring we protect our elections. Let me be clear: Donald Trump has zero credibility on the issue of election integrity."
