Dario Amodei, Sam Altman on AI: Amid pace of progress by models, ‘the world is right to be afraid’

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman addresses the state of AI after Amodei published an essay calling for a slowdown to development of the technology.
In his essay, Amodei recommended a three-step plan for leading AI companies like OpenAI, Anthropic and Google Deep Mind to “pace the frontier.” This would create more time to manage AI risks and build it out safely, he said. Amodei also called on the government to require all frontier AI companies to adhere to the plan.
Both tech CEOs spoke at a Salesforce event, underscoring the impact of the industry on the economy and beyond.
"I think you also see a real fear that some of these companies or some companies developing AI could get too much power and be able to sort of exert undue influence on the economy, push a worldview out on people," Altman said. "And I think the world is right to be afraid of this
