Dale Caldwell resigns as NJ Lt. Governor, Mikie Sherill press conference announces

New Jersey Lt. Gov. Dale Caldwell resigned less than 24 hours after a report detailing his inappropriate behavior while in office was made public, Gov. Mikie Sherrill announced at a press conference Friday.
Caldwell was found to have violated state ethics policy and sexually harassed a subordinate after initially denying the allegations through his attorney.
The governor explained that Caldwell’s resigation "will allow us to move forward” and that she will “move swiftly and thoughtfully in choosing a new lieutenant governor who will represent my administration and the people of New Jersey with honor and integrity."
Sherrill also announced that acting comptroller Shirley Emehelu will serve as acting NJ secretary of state.
