Democrat Xp Lee said that if elected, he would focus on health and education.
Xp Lee, a health equity analyst for the Minnesota Department of Health and a former Brooklyn Park City Council member, won a special election on Tuesday in Minnesota House District 34B in the northern metro area, replacing the late Melissa Hortman, who was assassinated in June.

By defeating Republican incumbent Ruth Bittner, Xp Lee will join the House Democratic-Farmer-Labor Caucus, whose 67 members share power with 67 Republicans in the 134-member lower chamber.
Democrat Xp Lee said over the summer that if elected, he would focus on health and education, including addressing the wide disparities in both.
