An 80-year-old woman is dead after a house fire broke out in the West Valley early Thursday morning.
Goodyear firefighters responded to reports of a fire in the backyard of a home near Yuma Road and 177th Avenue.

A fire official said there was “significant storage” in the yard and that the blaze had spread to the house.

Firefighters knocked down the flames and were able to enter the home, where they found the homeowner dead. She was later identified as Sripan Roemer.

Stephanie Duprey reports.
