The Grand Canyon is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World and its rim-to-rim hike is a bucket list trail for many hikers. However, the Dragon Bravo Fire destroyed the North Rim lodge and damaged the North Kaibab Trail, forcing an early closure to rim-to-rim season this year.

Now, park officials said they can’t further assess the damage until the spring to establish the trail’s reopening date. So avid rim-to-rim hikers are worried the 24-mile, 10,000-foot-elevation-change hike at the Grand Canyon could be closed for years.

Brian Speciale is the host of the Grand Canyon Hiker Dude Show podcast and an avid rim-to-rim hiker.
