Israeli attacks leave at least 20 dead in Gaza
By Rodrigo Santos Andrade
Two gunmen opened fire at Sydney’s Bondi Beach on Sunday (Dec 14), killing 15 people and wounding dozens in Australia’s worst gun violence in almost 30 years. Police have labelled the attack, which was carried out on a gathering for the Jewish festival of Hanukkah, an act of terrorism. Samantha Jones, a criminology lecturer at Charles Sturt University’s Australian Graduate School of Policing and Security, says data shows extremist behaviour has been increasing significantly in Australia. She tells CNA’s Asia First: “Festive seasons are part of a pattern in terms of extremist behaviour. Organisations may take advantage of this act of terrorism and leverage it.”
