Syrian refugee Ahmed Al Ahmed overpowered and disarmed the gunman during the Bondi Beach massacre.
Although shot and recovering in the hospital, he expressed his acts as a way to thank Australia for his citizenship.
A GoFundMe page for him has been set up and already raised $1.7 million.
US President Donald Trump praised Ahmed for his bravery.
“There’s been a very, very brave person, actually, who attacked frontally one of the shooters and saved a lot of lives.”
