A father and son appeared to be driven by "Islamic State ideology" when they opened fire on a Jewish festival at Sydney’s Bondi Beach, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said on Tuesday (Dec 16). Sajid Akram and his son Naveed opened fire on Jewish crowds thronging the famous beach for Hanukkah on Sunday evening, killing 15 people and wounding dozens more.

In response, the Albanese government is tightening gun laws, emphasising the need for stricter measures since the Port Arthur massacre. Meanwhile, community members are mourning the victims and expressing their support, while security has been increased across the nation. https://cna.asia/3YADJfL
