Australia has on Thursday (Dec 18) announced new reforms to combat hate speech and anti-semitism, giving the Home Affairs Minister expanded powers to reject visas and forming a special task force. The legislation aims to introduce higher penalties for hate speech, particularly targeting radical preachers, in response to a noted rise in hate incidents since October 2023.

Following a tragic attack at Bondi Beach on Sunday during a Hanukkah celebration, the Australian government is intensifying its efforts to ensure community safety and solidarity. https://cna.asia/3KOYpO7
