Israeli attacks leave at least 20 dead in Gaza

President Trump signed a new bill into law Friday that recognizes certain firefighter cancers as line-of-duty deaths, ensuring families of first responders who die from occupational cancer will get the benefits they deserve.
The Honor Act links certain types of cancer to job-related exposure and removes the burden from grieving families to prove direct exposure to receive crucial federal death and education benefits.
“It made it difficult for claims to be processed or they would flat out be denied. The presumption of cancer, which we know is ever prevalent in the fire service. The president signing this cleans all that up,” said Scottsdale Fire Chief Tom Shannon.
Firefighters are exposed to deadly carcinogens every day, whether at house fires or incidents like the junkyard fire that happened in south Phoenix Thursday night.
Dozens of firefighters were called to 23rd Avenue and Broadway Road, where investigators say at least 30 cars were on fire with smoke billowing in the sky.
“Everything is made of chemicals so when they burn, it can be nasty,” Shannon said.
Cancer is the leading cause of firefighter deaths, according to the International Association of Fire Fighters.
