Crescent Spring, also called Yueya Spring, is situated 5 kilometers south of Dunhuang City in northwest China’s Gansu Province. Winds carrying large amounts of sand are blocked by the mountains here, causing sand particles to settle and accumulate over time, thus forming Mingsha Mountain. Crescent Spring, nestled among the sand dunes, gets its name from its crescent shape.
