The festive period this time will see workers in Australia protected under the Albanese government’s penalty rates act for the first time.
An estimated 2.6 million work through the Christmas and New Year period nationwide, and the penalty hours will be guaranteed for the first time.
Despite arguments suggesting the laws make it more expensive for stores to stay open, as many shoppers choose to make purchases online, the federal government insists that in-store shopping will always be essential.
