Melbourne is facing the risk of water restrictions for the first time in a decade.
The state’s water storage levels have declined significantly after low rainfall, a dry summer, and a larger population using more water than in previous years.
It has recorded the steepest annual decline in more than a decade.
Individual water use is the highest it has been in almost 20 years, hitting 169 litres a day, up from 163 the year before.
