China has recorded its first-ever footage of a wild Siberian tigress with five cubs in Hunchun, northeast China’s Jilin Province, at the Northeast China Tiger and Leopard National Park — the world’s largest tiger reserve and a key habitat for the endangered species.
The mother is estimated to be around nine years old, with the cubs aged six to eight months.
The reserve also reported another big Siberian tiger family in the wild in November, consisting of a mother and four cubs.
These rare sightings signal positive progress in the recovery of the species in China, according to an expert from the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
