There are new developments on a case of alleged sexual misconduct involving the White Mountain Apache Tribe’s chairman.

According to a spokesperson with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the investigation into Kasey Velasquez has been referred to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for federal prosecution.

Earlier in 2025, we reported that there were allegations made against Velasquez. At the time, multiple sources told us that the incident happened during work hours. The alleged victim, who was the tribe’s HR Director at the time of the incident, said prior to the alleged incident, Velasquez had asked for "casual hugs," and then "longer hugs," leading up to the alleged sexual assault.
