Israeli attacks leave at least 20 dead in Gaza
By Rodrigo Santos Andrade
Dozens of new laws took effect across the country at the stroke of midnight Thursday, ushering in a wave of legislative changes for 2026 that touch on everything from digital privacy to public safety.
In Arizona, the minimum wage increased to $15.15 per hour, but a more significant shift took effect in Flagstaff, where the city has officially eliminated the lower wage for tipped workers.
Under a local ballot initiative passed by Flagstaff voters in 2016, the city’s minimum wage rose to $18.35 per hour on Jan. 1. While the rate typically increases annually based on inflation, 2026 marks the first year that employers in Flagstaff must pay the full minimum wage to all employees, including those who earn tips.
