More than 140 roads in Queensland remain closed, and traffic is increasing as the far north of the state is under a cyclone watch.

Flood warnings are currently in effect for the Flinders River area due to recent heavy rains, which have caused river and creek levels to rise.

The weather bureau has also warned that a tropical low may form in the north of the Coral Sea between Cairns and Townsville beginning early next week.
