Bangladesh Elections 2026: Hindu Leader Gobinda Pramanik’s Nomination From Hasina’s Seat Rejected

In a significant development ahead of the Bangladesh General Elections scheduled for February 12, 2026, the Election Commission has rejected the nomination of prominent Hindu leader Gobinda Chandra Pramanik. Pramanik, the General Secretary of the Jatiyo Hindu Mahajat, had filed to contest as an independent candidate from the Gopalganj-3 constituency, the traditional seat of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Speaking to India Today’s Ashutosh Mishra, Pramanik confirmed his disqualification, stating that the commission cited ‘invalid voter signatures’ as the reason—a mandatory requirement for independent candidates. He alleged political interference, claiming, ‘BNP curtailed my nomination.’ The rejection comes amidst reports of rising atrocities against minorities in the country. The report highlights the challenges facing Hindu candidates in the upcoming 13th parliamentary elections.
