US Secretary of State Marco Rubio clashed with ABC News host George Stephanopoulos following the capture of Nicolas Maduro.
On Sunday, Rubio appeared on ABC’s ‘This Week’ alongside host Stephanopoulos to discuss whether the US would run Venezuela.
On Saturday, President Donald Trump announced the US would “run the country (Venezuela)” until a safe transition of power can be arranged.
During the interview, Stephanopoulos asked Rubio what authority America had to run Venezuela following the arrest of its leader.
Rubio revealed that a “quarantine” has been placed on Venezuela’s oil until the “conditions that are in the national interest” of the US and Venezuelan people are met.
The Secretary of State added that America’s goal in Venezuela was to ensure the country would no longer be a “narco-trafficking paradise”.
