The Archdiocese of Natal in Brazil, removed on Friday (03), a priest from ministerial duties after the leak of an audio in which the priest confessed to having lived a relationship with a man.

The relationship took place about 10 years ago and the audio was recorded in 2019, becoming public this Friday (03), which culminated in the priest’s removal.  The subject became one of the most talked about on Twitter.

At the time of the event, the man was engaged and the priest he became involved with celebrated his marriage with his wife shortly afterwards.  Years later, she discovered the case and confronted the two, recording the audio in which the priest confesses the relationship.

In a note, the Archdiocese informed that the Archbishop of Natal, Dom Jaime Vieira Rocha, determined the removal so that “the facts can be investigated and the necessary measures taken”.  He also warned that he only became aware of the situation after the audio was leaked.

He also ordered that a prior investigation be opened, as prescribed by Canon Law, in order to investigate possible responsibilities, the note explained.
