US authorities are warning residents to dispose of their Christmas trees safely after several were illegally dumped on San Francisco’s streets.

Officials say the pile-up poses a risk to public safety.

Recology says it collects roughly 500 tonnes of Christmas trees each year and turns them into compost, ready to provide fertiliser for other plants.
