Sumedha Verma Ojha On Somnath Temple: ‘It Is A Marker For Us, Spiritual, Civilizational| India Today

In a special discussion, author Sumedha Verma Ojha and author-screenwriter Advaita Kala delve into the historical and civilisational significance of the Somnath temple. They argue that for generations, Indian history was taught as a narrative of defeat, deliberately downplaying stories of resistance and resilience. Advaita Kala states, ‘we were all subjected to it through our textbook, through popular discourse, through political action or rather inaction. This was definitely one of the earliest propaganda tools’. The conversation explores how this ‘collective gaslighting’ led to a disconnect from India’s intellectual and spiritual heritage. The speakers also counter the ‘Hindu Pakistan’ argument, asserting that Sanatan Dharma’s core principle is inclusion, and that Hindu anger over suppressed history has been channelled through legal and non-violent means, as seen with the Ram Mandir.
