ASEAN needs to reject Myanmar election outcome, says expert

The second phase of voting in Myanmar’s widely criticised military-run election concluded on Sunday (Jan 11), with a third and final phase taking place in two weeks’ time. The polls are the first since a 2021 coup that ousted the government of Aung San Suu Kyi and plunged the country into a civil war. Ben Lee, executive director at the Special Advisory Council for Myanmar, an independent advisory group of international experts, speaks to CNA’s Asia Now about the low voter turnout. He says the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) needs to reject the outcome of this election and take a stronger stance against the military government.
