Ong Ye Kung on new Integrated Shield Plan rider requirements

The new requirements for Integrated Shield Plan (IP) riders will only affect policyholders who purchased riders on or after Nov 27 last year. For affected IP riders, premiums under the new design should be lower – by an average 30 per cent compared with existing policies with maximum coverage. For a rider plan designed with the new requirements, there will still be a cap of five per cent co-payment of up to S$6,000 a year, in addition to deductibles. These need not be out-of-pocket cash payments because patients can tap on their MediSave.
Based on projections, six in 10 rider claimants for private hospitals should not have to pay out-of-pocket after MediSave. For the remaining four in 10, the majority with out-of-pocket requirements would pay S$1,000 or less, and practically all would pay S$3,000 or less. Health Minister Ong Ye Kung gave this assurance in reply to parliamentary questions on Monday (Jan 12).
