Prosecutors seek the death penalty for South Korea’s former president

Prosecutors have asked for South Korea’s former president to be handed the death sentence if he is found guilty.
A court in Seoul heard closing arguments in Yoon Suk Yeol’s trial over his attempt to impose martial law.
The charges stem from his effort to impose military rule in the country in December 2024.
He has denied the charges, arguing that martial law was a “symbolic gesture” to draw public attention to the wrongdoings of the Opposition party.
