‘Mattel missing the mark’: Newly released autism Barbie is ‘unrealistic’ of disorder

Former Liberal senator Hollie Hughes says she “rolled her eyes” when she found out Mattel released their first-ever Barbie with autism, in their attempt at “simplifying what autism is”.
Ms Hughes claims this release is “not the reality” for people who have autism.
“Mattel has brought out a Barbie that has a fidget spinner, it has an iPad, but it’s actually an augmented communication tool, and has the Barbie wearing headphones.
“None of that is particularly incorrect for a lot of people with autism in its totality and doesn’t represent the spectrum of it.
