Police in Hong Kong shot and killed a 34-year-old knife-wielding man at a shopping centre on Thursday (Jab 15) night, stating they had no choice but to open fire to save a passerby. The man, a former construction worker with a criminal record and drugs found on him, had taken a woman hostage. Police fired two shots at him, and he was declared dead at the hospital. Authorities said the use of lethal force was necessary to stop the violent act and save an innocent bystander’s life. The motive and circumstances remain under investigation.
