European countries meet to discuss response to Donald Trump’s tariff threat over Greenland

Denmark’s Prime Minister says his country will not be “blackmailed” after US President Donald Trump threatened to impose tariffs on European countries who oppose his annexation of Greenland.
An emergency meeting is taking place in Brussels to discuss a coordinated response to the American leader’s threat.
In a joint response by Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and the UK, they say: “As members of NATO, we are committed to strengthening Arctic security as a shared transatlantic interest.
“We stand in full solidarity with the Kingdom of Denmark and the people of Greenland.
“Tariff threats undermine transatlantic relations and risk a dangerous downward spiral. We will continue to stand united and coordinated in our response. We are committed to upholding our sovereignty.”
