Arizona taxpayers in dark about millions in oversight costs, watchdog group says

The Goldwater Institute, a right-leaning think tank, has filed in federal court, asking to end federal oversight of Maricopa County’s Sheriff’s Office in order to provide proper accounting of the federally-appointed monitor. The watchdog group’s brief takes no position on whether the sheriff’s office has reformed its policies. But the group says the court’s continued order prevents taxpayers from knowing where their money is going.
