NATO Secretary General delivers harsh truths to EU over how much defence would cost without the US

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has said that Europe cannot defend itself without the United States.
Rutte claimed anyone who thinks the European Union can defend itself without the US can “keep on dreaming”.
The Secretary General also said the US needs NATO.
Rutte goes on to say that if Europe wants to “go it alone”, nations will have to increase spending to 10 per cent of GDP and build their own nuclear capability, which would cost billions of euros.
The Secretary General also praised US President Trump for his achievements in getting NATO members to increase their defence spending.
