Former prime minister Scott Morrison is calling for stronger and more radical regulations targeting extremist Islamic institutions.
Speaking at the International Conference on Combating Antisemitism, Mr Morrison raised the need for greater oversight of how Islam is practiced in Australia.
The former prime minister proposed measures including a register of public roles, greater transparency around teachings, and foreign funding and independent monitoring of safeguarding standards.
Bondi Rabbi Yehoram Ulman was emotional while addressing the conference as he spoke about lives lost in the December tragedy.
