Sir Keir Starmer has come under fire after Lord Mandelson resigned his Labour membership to avoid causing it "further embarrassment" following further revelations about his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein The Tories called for a "full and thorough independent investigation" into his appointment as US ambassador.
Papers suggest Epstein sent $75,000 (£55,000) to Lord Mandelson through three distinct $25,000 transfers in 2003 and 2004.
In his correspondence to Labour’s general secretary, Lord Mandelson said: "I have been further linked this weekend to the understandable furore surrounding Jeffrey Epstein and I feel regretful and sorry about this."
