Kim Kardashian received a fine from the United States government in the amount of US$1.26 million for failing to tell her fans that she had received US$250,000 to promote tokens for a cryptocurrency called EMAX, created by the EthereumMax platform.
Kim Kardashian told her fans that she discovered “a few minutes ago that EthereumMax had burned 400 trillion tokens, literally 50% of its administrative wallet”, basically she said that EthereumMax had created a lot of new reserves.
After the disclosure and purchase of the token by Kim Kardashian’s followers, the value of the EMAX cryptocurrency plummeted.
Kim Kardashian agreed to pay the fine for the infraction, which from the point of view of US securities law, Kim Kardashian’s infraction was the failure to reveal to her 225 million Instagram followers that she was being paid to promote EMax.
On the same day that the government agency reprimanded Kim Kardashian, the US Treasury Department released a detailed report on the risks that cryptocurrencies pose to financial markets.
