ABC’s temporary pre-emption of Jimmy Kimmel’s show is a symptom of a systemic crisis that allows a shrinking pool of media moguls to buy up ever-greater shares of the airwaves, says monopoly expert Matt Stoller. Consolidation, he warns, “is necessary in – and is authoritarianism.” Boycotts can pressure CEOs to reconsider capitulating to Trump, but the long-term solution is for lawmakers to “deconcentrate and democratize the economy.”
