Chinese President Xi Jinping has pointed out the importance of protecting historical culture and highlighting local features in urban planning. Xi emphasized adopting "micro-renovation" methods with "embroidery-like" precision, paying attention to the inheritance of civilization and the continuity of culture, so as to let cities remain as places where people remember their nostalgia.
Minzhu Village Community in Jiulongpo District, southwest China’s Chongqing Municipality, is a vivid embodiment of this concept. A few years ago, it was still a dilapidated "urban village." In early 2022, the Minzhu Village Community, with a history of over 70 years, launched an urban renewal project, included in a national pilot program.
On April 22, 2024, Xi visited the Minzhu Village Community during his inspection tour in Chongqing. He learned about the progress of the community renovation and services offered for residents in the community.
Today, the Minzhu Village retains the unique charm of its old industrial culture, with the community’s functional layout innovatively optimized. It subtly blends the warmth of daily life with fashion-forward styles, becoming a striking scenic spot in Chongqing.
