China’s Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP) officially launched island-wide special customs operations on December 18, a landmark step in aligning with high-standard international trade rules. The initiative, while drawing attention for tariff-free policies and lower taxation, is centered on a pioneering special customs model designed to streamline cross-border flows and attract global investment. For this special edition of The Hub, Wang Guan flew to the island province. He talks to a panel of Hainan-based foreigners, to find out how the country’s largest special economic zone and a key testing ground for deepening reform and opening up reflects China’s resolve to address external uncertainties.
