After his 18‑year‑old son Stephen Benito Jacobo was shot and killed at a Mesa apartment complex, Stephen’s father, Mark Jacobo, says no prison term can make up for the loss. He pushed prosecutors to pursue a second‑degree murder charge and calls the 15‑year sentence “a good outcome,” but says he’ll carry his own life sentence of grief. Now, through the Stephen Benito Jacobo Foundation, he’s channeling his pain into advocacy for young victims of violence and their families. Molly McBride has more.
