This week on The Front 9 with Steve Nielsen, we’re hitting the course with two incredible guests from the world-famous a cappella group, Straight No Chaser. With millions of views on YouTube and their absolute blast of a stage show, Mike Luginbill and Jerome Collins join Steve for a unique day of golf at the gorgeous Mesa Country Club in Arizona. Despite a rainy day, the guys have a great time combining golf and singing. Jerome and Mike even create a new theme song for the show.
Straight No Chaser’s journey began as a bunch of college buddies. The group started back in 1996 at Indiana University as a fun side project. They’d sing for food and friends. Twenty-three years later, they’re selling out theaters across the country and still living what they call the "college dream". Their break came from a 1998 comedic performance of "The 12 Days of Christmas". It was posted to YouTube in 2006 and went viral. It garnered 26 million views. Life changed for the talented singers after a life-changing call from Atlantic Records that got the band back together—and they haven’t turned back since!
To offer some golf inspiration for Steve, Mike and Jerome show off their skills singing a few public domain Christmas tunes. There was quite a celebration when Jerome nailed his birdie putt after a great tee shot on a par 3. Mike told us how music has become everything in their lives. In this unique episode, the high notes are more impressive than the drives.
