Maricopa County has filed a motion to end the years-long federal oversight of the sheriff’s office.
The federal oversight is a result of a 2007 class action lawsuit regarding racial profiling under then-Sheriff Joe Arpaio. The case, subsequent federal oversight, and costs to the sheriff’s office have totaled more than $300 million. Reporter Amy Cutler has the story.
