The mother of Mercedes Vega, who was murdered and left burning alive in a car off I-10 in Tonopah in 2023, says the death penalty move is a step toward justice. Maricopa County prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against Cudjoe Young and Sencere Hayes, the two men accused of torturing and killing the 22-year-old. Mickaela Castillo talked to Vega’s mother, Erika Pillsbury, who explained why she welcomes the death penalty.
