Israeli attacks leave at least 20 dead in Gaza

There are new California law taking effect Jan. 1, 2026, including AB 628, which requires landlords in the state to maintain stoves and fridges in rental units, AB 578 that will seek to enhance consumer protection in food delivery and SB 1053, authored by Sen. Catherine Blakespear (D–Encinitas), which bans the distribution of plastic bags at grocery stores, pharmacies, and retail checkout counters.
