The Albanese Government has announced a new gas reservation scheme requiring exporters to reserve 15 to 25 per cent of gas production for the domestic market, beginning in 2027. Energy Minister Chris Bowen says the scheme addresses the contradiction of Australia being one of the world’s largest gas exporters while facing domestic gas shortages. The policy applies only to new contracts and aims to secure affordable gas for the Australian economy.
