Nicki Minaj caused a stir at AmericaFest after referring to US Vice President JD Vance as an “assassin” during an on-stage appearance with Erika Kirk.
Erika Kirk is the widow of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated in September during an outdoor Turning Point USA event in Utah.
Minaj was a surprise guest at the Turning Point USA conference, founded by Kirk to mobilise young conservative voters.
Asked about her message to young men, Minaj praised President Donald Trump and JD Vance as “amazing role models”.
She called Trump “our handsome, dashing president” before stumbling over her words and stopping herself mid-sentence as she referred to Vance as an "assassin".
"Dear young men, you have amazing role models like our handsome, dashing president. And you have amazing role models like the assassin JD Vance, our vice president," the rapper said before catching herself.
The remark prompted laughter from Erika Kirk, who quickly brushed it off and reassured Minaj.
"Trust me, there’s nothing new under the sun that I have not heard, so you’re fine," Kirk said.
Minaj smiled and leant forward as the moment passed, and the conversation moved on.
