Victoria’s Ombudsman testified at a parliamentary inquiry into the state’s childcare sector, revealing that government departments ignored safety recommendations made in 2022. The watchdog followed up three times with the Justice Department about strengthening working with children’s checks, but received no response from the Attorney-General until July 2024 when told the recommendation remained under consideration. The inquiry is examining safety standards, training, workforce conditions and staff-to-child ratios following shocking allegations against early childhood worker Joshua Dale Brown.
