Israeli attacks leave at least 20 dead in Gaza
By Rodrigo Santos Andrade
Australia’s gun laws are being examined by the federal government after two gunmen attacked a Hanukkah event at Sydney’s Bondi Beach on Sunday (Dec 14), killing 15 people. One of the gunmen, Sajid Akram, who was shot dead by police, was a licensed gun owner and had six registered weapons. Rod Campbell, a research director at Canberra-based think tank The Australia Institute, noted the country now has more guns in circulation than it did before reforms in 1996. He tells CNA’s Asia First that a major gap remains Australia’s failure to complete a national firearms registry, and that a majority of Australians support stronger gun laws.
