Israeli attacks leave at least 20 dead in Gaza

The Supreme Court denied bail to student activists Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam in the 2020 Delhi riots conspiracy case, citing their alleged ‘central and directive role’ after nearly five years of incarceration. A bench of Justices Aravind Kumar and N.V. Anjaria, however, granted bail to five other co-accused, including Gulfisha Fatima and Meeran Haider. The decision has ignited a debate, with Senior Advocate Dr. Ashwani Kumar arguing for the prevalence of Article 21, while others defend the judgment citing the UAPA and national security. This development is contrasted with Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim being granted parole for the 15th time since his 2017 conviction. Other major headlines include former US President Donald Trump’s warning of increased tariffs on India over Russian oil imports and the murder of AAP Sarpanch Jarnail Singh in Punjab, which has sparked criticism of the state’s law and order situation.
