The UN Security Council held an emergency meeting on Monday (Jan 5) to address the US capture of Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro. The meeting was requested by Colombia, with support from China and Russia.

Venezuela’s Ambassador Samuel Moncada told the Council that “Venezuela is the victim of these attacks because of its natural resources,” while US Ambassador Michael Waltz defended the US’ move, arguing “you cannot continue to have the largest energy reserves in the world under the control of adversaries of the United States.”
